Second Chances

I signed up for a twitter account this weekend. Rather, I re-signed up for a twitter account. I’ve signed up and then deactivated at least twice before. I think the problem was that I didn’t know how to use it. For one thing, I waited around for people to follow me. I see now that it’s a sort of news/information aggregator, and the key is to follow interesting people. They don’t have to be people you know in real life. For another thing, I didn’t tweet very often, and when I did it tended to be boring. Song lyrics and updates on the marathon I was training for at the time. Stuff that I knew was too boring to post on facebook (you know, where all the people are), but I felt the need to broadcast anyway. Writing this blog has helped me to temper the impulse to overshare with respect to tedious daily details. [I’m not saying this blog isn’t boring, just that I’m not going post about what I ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner or anything like that.]

When you deactivate a twitter account, you can’t ever reuse the name you registered. So I guess it’s a good thing I got married and have a new last name I can use for such purposes. Yes, that’s right. I don’t use my husband’s name at work, but I do on twitter. Which is convenient, because this blog is sort of semi-anonymous.

In sum: if you want to watch me re-learn twitter, I’m @sandy_ford.
